Reproducing brightlyshypainted illustrations of marine life from the east indies taken from a book c1719 by louis renard c1678shy1746 the illustrations are thought to be after those of samuel fallours active 170320 and reflect an early understanding of a region which was largely unexplored in this period renard presented a copy to naturalist and collector sir hans sloane 1660shy1753 and it is this copy which is now part of the british libraryquots collection4 designs 6quot
