Product Description
"Discover the most advanced blades from Gillette" - according to the website of the global market leader in the wet shaving segment. This refers to the blades of the Fusion ProShield, Gillette's latest top model, which not only features innovative blades, but also a special mounting of the blade head: the so-called Flexball technology.
The blade heads have 5 blades as well as a precision trimmer blade at the back, which is designed for precise contour trimming. In contrast to the Gilette Fusion, the ProShield has Lubrastrips in front of and behind the blade block to make shaving even smoother.
More blades, more lubricant - that's not really innovative. The suspension of the blade head, on the other hand, is all the more innovative: the handle is connected to a spherical blade holder via a curved arm, which can be rotated in many dimensions in relation to the handle. The blade is placed on this. In the drugstore, Gillette tries to bring the principle to the man with the help of showcases. Customers can turn a crank that rotates an asymmetrical shape on which the Fusion Proshield is placed. Just as the axle of an off-road vehicle adapts to uneven terrain, the ProShield glides over the mould while the handle remains vertical and only the blade head moves.
The standard model comes in yellow - a "Chill" version with cooling blades is blue, with further colour campaigns likely to follow. The different coloured and slightly modified blades are interchangeable between the handle versions.
"Best wet shave ever" on the one hand, "overpriced toy" on the other; the customer reviews on various online portals are therefore mixed. As is so often the case in the wet shaving sector, which thrives on the need for replacement blades, the truth lies somewhere in between. Flexball technology seems to make shaving easier for many users thanks to the best possible customisation. Of course, Gillette pays dearly for such a change. After all, the blades are currently more than twice as expensive as the tried-and-tested MACH3. Wilkinson's blades are generally slightly below the Gillette price. The Fusion ProShield is definitely something for collectors and wet shaving fanatics who always want to be up to date, or who are always in need of optimisation due to complicated skin. You can save money and still enjoy a comfortable shave with the predecessor models.
